Why Zermatt is different.
Zermatt is unlike any other Alpine village.
First thing you notice, it’s car-free. Only electric taxis and horse-drawn carriages. Small children can wander down the middle of a road without their parents flinching. Which honestly might be Zermatt’s quiet superpower for families.
The second thing you notice is the Matterhorn. That impossible mountain hangs over the village like someone’s painted it on the sky. For children, it becomes a landmark, a bedtime story, sometimes a bit of an obsession. There’s no overstating the effect it has on a family holiday.
Most people don’t realise that you can ski in Zermatt all year round. The Glacier means summer skiing is a real thing, and families come here in July with the Matterhorn on one side and gorgeous summer wild flowers on the other, it’s a true swiss chocolate box village. Winter’s the classic postcard picture but you will feel the magic of Zermatt any time of year. There’s no wrong time to bring the kids.
Zermatt is fantastic for children, with multiple parks and play areas to ice skating and the beginner friendly Wolli park for skiing, there really is something for all ages. Our best piece of advice: don’t try to see everything. This place rewards a slower pace. Long lunches on the mounatin, a horse-drawn ride through the village at dusk, watching the last light catch the Matterhorn from your balcony. It’s not a resort to tick off, it’s one to settle into.
Why we wanted to be here too
For years, our Verbier families and the chalet companies who service Zermatt kept asking the same thing: could we come here too?
For a while the answer was not yet. We’re a small, personal operation and we wanted to get it right. We first opened in Zermatt in 2016 and over the years we’ve worked hard to find the right people and partners to make sure we can offer the same high quality service.
Petit Verbier in Zermatt runs by the same rules as Verbier. Same interview process, same training, same standards of care. Our nannies here have all been personally selected by Sarina and the team. What’s different is scale. We’re smaller here (for now), which means you’ll see the same faces again and again- but you will need to book in early!
If you’re staying somewhere in Zermatt, chances are we already know your concierge, your chalet manager, or your ski school. If we don’t, we’ll happily introduce ourselves.
Winter:
The winter season runs from the end of November to April, though there is skiing year round on the glacier. Holiday weeks are Christmas, February half-term (British and international), and Easter. For these dates we reccommend you book at least two months ahead- they go fast.
Summer:
Zermatt is a true all year resort, there is always a range of activities to do at any time of year and we stay open too. Come for the summer hikes, Matterhorn views or to ski at any time of year! It never loses it’s charm and many places stay open year round. The train ride to Zermatt is part of the adventure.
