Spring Skiing- the best time for a family ski holiday?

If you’ve ever tried getting a toddler into ski gear in the middle of January, you’ll know the struggle is real. The layers, the frozen fingers, the goggles that won’t sit right—by the time they’re ready, you’re sweating in your thermals and wondering why this is called a holiday. (Unless of course you have a Petit Verbier nanny to help with all of the getting ready)

But here’s the secret from someone who's lived in the mountains with 3 kids: spring skiing with kids is an absolute game-changer.

Lighter Evenings & Longer Days

Spring brings longer days, which means more sunshine and extra time on the slopes without the rush. No need to squeeze in every run before 3pm,it stays light until later, giving you a more relaxed, easygoing ski day. Not to mention time for a drink on a sunny terrace before dinner! I’ts a good idea to extend your nanny booking to include kids dinner and bed time one night to enjoy the aprés ski hours.

Fewer Layers, Less Drama

Gone are the days of wrestling kids into five layers, only for them to complain they’re too hot as soon as you step outside. Spring skiing means fewer layers to get on kids AND less to pack. The only challenge is getting kids to keep gloves on when their hands are warm but they need to be protected in case they fall!

Happier Kids Outside for Longer

Let’s face it, when it’s -10°C, even the keenest little skiers start to lose interest fast. In spring, they can enjoy skiing, sledging, and playing in the snow without freezing, which means fewer complaints and more fun. Plus, warmer weather = better snack breaks outside with hot chocolate and sunshine, or picnic lunches! We love a picnic at Petit Verbier and our nannies know all the best spots.

Quieter Slopes & More Space

Many families head to the mountains during the Christmas or February peak weeks, which means by spring, the slopes are quieter, and ski schools often have smaller groups. Your little ones get more attention from instructors, and there’s more space for them to practice turns. Nanny availability will vary depending on which week you’re travellling so it’s always best to book ahead.

End-of-Season Parties & Fun Events

Spring brings a festival vibe to the mountains! Think sunny après-ski with live music, fun ski races, and even pond-skimming events (trust me, the kids will love watching people attempt to ski across a pool of water). It’s the perfect mix of skiing and celebrating.

So, if you’re after slower ski mornings, happy kids, and a bit of après-ski fun, spring is the time to hit the slopes! Book those ski passes, pack the sunscreen, and enjoy the mountains this April.

We can't wait to see you here!
