What's in my Nanny Bag?

Writer: Sarina BrookSarina Brook

Being a nanny is fun, hands on and at times challenging. It is important to be prepared at all times for meltdowns, mess and hot chocolates. Im going to go through what is kept in my Petit Verbier backpack which I NEVER leave the house without.

Baby wipes - This is important when it comes to not only changing nappies but also wiping spaghetti, sauce, chocolate the food list goes on off of a childs face. They are also great to wipe food off of your own face and hands.

Tissues - Living in a Verbier tissues are always in my backpack and my pockets as kids nose are constantly snotty and need help or reminding to blow their noses.

Toys - As the age of the children I nanny change, I make sure I have the right toy in my bag for entertainment. For babies this might be building blocks and squeaky toys like (Sophie the giraffe) and for old kids this might be card games, Uno is always a favourite.

Bubbles - This is a life saver especially when dealing with meltdowns and will work with any age!

Arts and crafts - I always have my especially made arts and crafts box. This contains, scissors, glue, paper, colouring pens and pencils and lots of fun materials, stickers, feathers etc. One that needs constantly topping up as it is almost used everyday.

Story book - One of my favourite parts of my day is when I get to read a story book. It doesn't have to be bedtime for me to whip out my favourite story book and read to the children. My favourite book is, The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson.

First Aid kit - A very important item in my backpack. This contains plasters, bandages, disinfectant, tweezers all the necessary bits if a child has hurt themselves. I also have all emergency numbers of local police, doctors, hospital, fire station and poison hotline.

Folder - All of us at Petit Verbier have a blue folder in our backpack which contains our employers handbook, stickers, business cards and our job sheets.

Personal Items - Sunglasses, gloves, hat and wallet for those hot chocolates.

These are all the things you'll always find in my backpack. There is plenty of room for the day to day extras such as nappies, snacks, bottles, bib, sunscreen, lip balm, childs sunglasses, gloves and hat.

Keeping all of these items in our backpacks helps us stay organised, prepared and clean!
